Pirelli motorsport boss Mario Isola has rejected criticism from Haas over their 2019 tyres.

As problems extracting the best performance persisted in Baku, team boss Guenther Steiner bemoaned their influence as "not Formula 1".

Other teams have admitted issues finding the optimum temperature window, but focusing solely on Haas, Isola thinks they are covering their own flaws.

“I find it difficult to judge because it is related to their chassis,” he is quoted by Russia’s Championat publication.

“It seems that in qualifying they are fast, but in the race, the temperature of the tyres drops and they cannot maintain the same speed.

“They need to find a way to load the rubber more strongly since it was originally designed to work most effectively at high temperatures.”

This year has seen Pirelli go more conservative with the compound selections in an effort to allow for more flat-out racing.

Also, thinner treads have been introduced to reduce blistering, with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff describing the work of understanding the tyres as a "science".
