Lewis Hamilton does believe Sebastian Vettel can "rebound" from his current difficult spell.

Since losing the victory due to a penalty in Canada, the German has been beaten by his teammate Charles Leclerc in all three races and, in Britain, caused another collision as he ploughed into the back of Max Verstappen.

Speaking to Sky Sports, however, Hamilton doesn't believe it will have a lasting effect on the Ferrari driver.

"I absolutely believe he will rebound," he said.

"He's had a difficult race but he's a four-time world champion, he will recover and he will redeem himself if he feels he needs to and come back stronger the next race.

"That's what great athletes do."

Former F1 driver and respected pundit Martin Brundle isn't so sure though, as he wondered if Vettel had perhaps lost a step.

"Is he just having an unfortunate run, or has he lost a touch of vision, reaction and judgement which shows up at these speeds when under pressure?" he asked in his post-race column.

"I like the man so much and admire his track record, intellect, and human values, but I long ago lost the right as a pundit to sit on the fence.

"As we have seen with many drivers in the later stages of their careers, he has lost judgement and reactions in wheel-to-wheel action."

As for Vettel, he played down the situation, beginning by brushing off any comparisons between his difficulties vs. Leclerc and those vs. Daniel Ricciardo in 2014.

“No not really. Firstly, that was a long time ago and secondly, this is very different," he also told Sky Sports.

“When you’re talking about the frustrations I think it’s maybe here and there the end result that’s missing.

"I think in terms of the races we’ve had, they could have gone the other way as well so I think we need to be fair and not judging one particular lap.

"I’m not too worried but I know that I can have better results come Sunday. I’m looking forward to Germany now.”
