Lance Stroll felt there was much more on the table despite ending a 15-race streak of Q1 exits in German GP qualifying.

The Canadian had been competitive on Friday, scoring top 10's in both practice sessions as Racing Point brought major upgrades to their car.

But once again his weakness in extracting performance on a single-lap was clear as others improved on Saturday, in particular as he struggled for grip in the final stadium section.

“My qualifying was far from ideal, and it’s a shame because the car had the pace to make Q3 today,” the 20-year-old claimed.

“The car felt good in Q1 and we were competitive, but Q2 fell away from me.

“Yesterday we were looking really strong but we didn’t really get the balance right in Q2 and if anything took a step backwards compared to where we were.”

History suggests Stroll might take heart in the possibility of a wet race on Sunday, having often shown his best in tricky conditions.

And perhaps that is why he remained positive looking forward.

“I’m a little bit frustrated, but tomorrow is another day,” he stated. “We know we always race well and maybe we will get some wet weather.

"It won’t be easy from P15, but I still think we can target some points.”
