Lando Norris has played down Renault's sudden leap into fifth place in the Constructors' standings after the Italian Grand Prix.

The battle for top midfield team has picked up after the summer break following a difficult two races for McLaren as they have scored just a single point.

Contrast that to Renault who picked up 22 at Monza alone, as Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg finished fourth and fifth, and the gap between now sits at just 18 points.

“Not so much," he told RaceFans on if that result worried him. “I want to say this track suits them more than hopefully, Singapore will.

“They’ve always been quick, they’ve had one or two weekends where they haven’t looked strong at all.

“But it’s good points for them so we need to make sure we bounce back strong."

McLaren meanwhile suffered two Renault engine issues in Belgium, with Norris taking grid penalties and starting towards the back in Italy before coming through to 10th.

There was more frustration for Carlos Sainz though as his race was ended by a loose wheel exiting the pits, for which the team was fined 5000 Euros.

“I don’t know what happened to Carlos, I don’t know what position he was in when he had the problem so frustrating," the Briton commented, with the Spaniard fighting for sixth at the time of the botched pit-stop.

“We’ll try and come back a bit stronger in Singapore.”
