Sebastian Vettel has opened up on the honour he feels at being part of the Ferrari "family".

Racing for the Scuderia was always a dream for the four-time world champion having grown up watching Michael Schumacher win five of his seven titles at the Italian team.

That dream came true in 2015 and while his search for a world title at Ferrari continues, he admits the privilege of wearing the red overalls is still there.

“What does it mean for me to be at Ferrari? One day, when I am plump and old, I will think about how good it was to have been part of this family. I will be proud to have been part of this team," he said via PlanetF1.

“I realise that my sport is to go in a car alone and driving, but I know I’m part of something bigger and that’s what counts for now. When I’m old, I’ll think about this story.”

This year, however, it has been suggested that Vettel is on borrowed time at Ferrari as teammate Charles Leclerc establishes himself and the German continues making pivotal mistakes.

“I don’t give weight to these messages,” he replied. “I have done good races and others less.

“In general if you are sincere with yourself you know when you have given your best. I am the first to criticise myself when I am wrong and I do not get the results I expect.”
