Pierre Gasly says he expected answers “quite soon” over his future, after rumours linking him to Renault next season.

After the Eifel Grand Prix, rumbles of possible friction between the Frenchman and Red Bull began to emerge with claims that Pierre had contacted Renault over the seat held by Esteban Ocon.

Responding to that speculation, however, Gasly admits any possible move is dependent on his current employer’s approval.

“I do not know if there are any options outside of the program,” he said. “I’m not involved in these discussions, so I can’t comment on them.

“What I know is Red Bull is basically in charge of managing everything and we should have some answers quite soon about what’s going to happen in the future.”

After his impressive performances this season, including a maiden F1 win at Monza, however, Gasly is hoping to get some recognition.

“On my side, I just try to perform as good as I can, I’m really happy with what we have shown so far this season,” he told Formula1.com.

“I’ve scored over 50 points in 11 races which has never been done at Toro Rosso or AlphaTauri before, so the team is really doing a fantastic job.

“And I really hope it will be rewarded with some opportunities.”

During Practice 2 at Portimao on Friday, however, the only reward Gasly received was a hot bottom and a rapid escape as an engine issue resulted in a fire threatening to engulf his car.

“Literally, five seconds before I stopped,” he told Formula1.com on when he knew something was wrong.

“I lost everything, the steering, the electrics and, we’re still investigating, but obviously there was quite a lot of fire at the back of the car and we need to understand what happened.”
