Pierre Gasly is looking to put the setback of two testing crashes behind him and is focused on a year of growth at Red Bull.
The Frenchman would heavily disrupt the end of his new team’s pre-season having slid off at the high-speed Turn 9 and severely damaging the RB15, limiting teammate Max Verstappen to just 29 laps on the final day.
Indeed, behind the scenes, the Dutchman’s father Jos Verstappen declared to Swiss outlet Blick that Max and Red Bull “were not happy” with Gasly.
“I’m always an optimistic guy,” the 23-year-old told Spain’s Marca looking forward. “My objective is to continue growing as a driver. It’s only my second year and I have a lot to learn but I’m in the best place possible.
“A world champion team, with Max at my side who is one of the most talented drivers — I’m excited to be here and I’ll try to give the maximum for the team.”

The moments, however, will do little to help his chances against Verstappen who any expect will now be the almighty number one at Red Bull.
Team boss Christian Horner has already hinted as such, suggesting Gasly’s promotion is earlier than hoped.
“I don’t believe so,” the former GP2 champion said in response that claim. “Objectively, it is my second year and in this sport, you develop year after year. Experience is what makes you stronger.
“Yes it’s also about pure speed, but it’s also about understanding the car, adapting your driving style when necessary, working with the engineers. I will try to learn as fast as possible.”
