Pierre Gasly says it will up to Red Bull to decide if he gets another chance as pressure grows on Alex Albon.

The two drivers have often found themselves on the same stretch of track this season despite the Frenchman racing for AlphaTauri and the Thai at the senior team.

Indeed, Gasly has often excelled, putting the car in the fight for points against very strong competition in Ferrari, Racing Point, McLaren and Renault.

But whether he can do enough to make Red Bull consider reversing the swap they made last summer, he isn’t so sure.

“I must say, it’s been going really well since the start of the year, and that’s what was one of our targets – to keep the momentum from last year,” he commented at Silverstone.

“I know (Red Bull advisor) Helmut (Marko) is really happy about the results and the performances in qualifying and the races, but at the end of the day, it’s not my call.

“The only thing I can do for myself, which is the only thing I’m focused on, is just performing every weekend and trying to grab at every opportunity that comes at me.

“That’s the only target. I’ve always believed as long as you put in strong performances, sooner or later opportunities will come.

“Only the future will tell, but at the moment I’m just focusing on my job and trying to deliver the best of myself.”

In contrast, Albon has struggled to be anywhere near Max Verstappen and failed to make Q3 in two of the past three races, leading some to question his position.

“I feel like the comments and everything has been a little bit unfair,” he told Sky Sports.

“Sundays have always been strong, I’m just trying to get the Saturdays a bit better. It’s been tricky.

“It’s almost like the Sunday car feels a lot nicer than the Saturday car and we just need to understand why that is.”

Red Bull boss Christian Horner also continued to praise Albon’s race-day performance.

“Alex has actually raced phenomenally well this season,” he said.

“I think that it will give him added confidence, we just need to make sure he is starting further up the grid. Imagine if, with that pace, he started in P4 or five?”
