Great news for Vettel as FIA lifts limit on F1 helmet design changes

Formula 1 has dropped the limit on helmet design changes heading into this season.

During his Red Bull days, Sebastian Vettel set a trend of altering his design for every race and would only use the same helmet again if he hadn’t won a race with it.

But with the FIA trying to make it easier for drivers to be identifiable on track, a ban on significant changes was introduced, though small tweaks were still permitted.

Later, a one-off exception was allowed with drivers typically using that at their home race or a special Grand Prix like Monaco, though that still wasn’t enough for Daniil Kvyat, who was denied from using a helmet he had made for the Russian GP last year.

Now though, it’s open season once again and Lando Norris hasn’t wasted any time in launching a competition for fans to design his helmet for the British GP in July.

But with Vettel now quite famous for his predominantly white helmet with a German flag stripe, it will be interesting to see if he’ll revert back to his old ways again.
