Maximilian Gunther took victory at Hong Kong in the first round of the Race At Home series after inheriting the lead of the race after Stoffel Vandoorne crashed at the Turn 3 chicane.
Vandoorne qualified on pole position and looked in control in the early stages, but on lap five the Belgian driver hit the wall at the Turn 3 chicane and dropped to fifth place.
The Mercedes driver had a massive amount of steering damage after his collision but was able to nurse his car home to finish in fifth place and even managed to fight for fourth with Robin Frijns.
Gunther qualified in third place but lost out to Nick Cassidy in the Virgin Racing car at the start, but Cassidy and Pascal Wehrlein came together Turn 3 which allowed Gunther to move into second and Cassidy passed Wehrelin to move into third.
Further back there were a few dramas as drivers such as James Calado, Antonio Felix Da Costa and Sebastien Buemi all collided into the walls and were eliminated from the race early on.
Nick Cassidy put Gunther under pressure during the race but was unable to find a way through and had to settle for second place.
Wehrlein came home in third for Mahindra, with Robin Frijns in fourth in the second Virgin ahead of Vandoorne.
Oliver Turvey and Oliver Rowland had a good battle for sixth place with Rowland coming out on top after he passed the NIO driver at Turn 2. Turvey was unable to return the favour, and he finished in seventh.
Felipe Massa came home in eighth for Venturi with Jerome D’Ambrosio in ninth, and Alexander Sims collected the final point in tenth.
