Lewis Hamilton says he’ll approach his quest for a seventh Formula 1 title “one step at a time” in 2020.
The world champion, who has taken the crown in five of the past six seasons, can match the record set by Michael Schumacher if he adds another championship to his tally.
And with that chance to make history does come more pressure, so when Hamilton returned to Brackley to kick off his pre-season preparations, he had this message for TeamLH.
“I’ve really missed all of you, the engagement and seeing you guys at the race weekends,” he said in social media video.
“So definitely I am excited to re-engage with you guys. It’s been an incredible winter, I’ve spent lots of time with family and friends, probably one of the best times has been with my dad.
“And secondly the training has been different this year, the feeling I have physically and mentally is on another level compared to last year so that is a real positive.

“I know that you guys are all gunning for number seven, but I think we just have to take it one step at a time, we have no idea where we are going to stand compared to everybody else,” Hamilton cautioned.
“We have to be more efficient this year in our test programme, particularly since we have less time, we still have a lot of work to do.”
Indeed, if Lewis is to become a seven-time F1 champion, it’s anticipated he’ll have to overcome the toughest challenge yet from a rejuvenated Red Bull team led by Max Verstappen and a highly-motivated Ferrari, where both Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc have their eyes on the prize.
