Formula 1 motorsport director Ross Brawn believes Lewis Hamilton & Michael Schumacher share an ability to leave their teams “speechless”.

Comparisons are always likely to be made between the two most successful drivers in Formula 1 history, particularly this year as Hamilton looks to match Schumacher as a seven-time world champion.

As a man who helped the German achieve his success throughout his career, Brawn is perhaps one of the best-placed figures to make such a comparison and for him, there’s one thing that stands out in particular.

“They are both massively talented in what they do in the car and those moments where they pull something out of nowhere,” he told The Guardian.

“Some of the qualifying laps Lewis has done have left the team speechless. Michael was the same, there are sometimes just those drivers who can do that.”

Both Schumacher and Hamilton were accused of achieving their championships through having superior machinery during their careers, though while Michael is praised for his role in building Ferrari to their domination, some feel Lewis simply walked into it.

“Lewis has deserved it, he has deserved every championship he has won,” Brawn insists.

“He has got himself at the right team at the right time and he is at peak performance. He doesn’t make mistakes and is a fantastic driver, his performance is exceptional.”
