Nico Hulkenberg dismissed a German media report linking him to an Audi seat in DTM for 2020.
The German’s options in Formula 1 shrunk even more on Monday after Alfa Romeo confirmed they would retain Antonio Giovinazzi alongside Kimi Raikkonen for next season.
Before that, however, Motorsport-Total ran a story quoting Motorsport Italy as claiming Hulkenberg would be switching to the touring car series with an announcement this week.
“Thanks to @MST_Formel1 for the update on my future,” he wrote in response on Twitter. “Next time maybe less pot-hitting?! #FakeNews”

Instead, the 32-year-old might be keeping an eye on the situation at Red Bull, perhaps his only hope for a 2020 F1 seat left.
Earlier, team advisor Helmut Marko had suggested a decision on who would race next to Max Verstappen would come around the Mexico/ US GP.
But the Austrian has since backed down from that deadline and now Alex Albon has claimed there has been no conversation at all regarding next year yet.
“Not really no, no real comments [from Marko],” he told Crash.net. “I just do my thing, keep going, of course he gives advice on areas I need to work on and that’s it really.
“It’s just a continuation each weekend, and of course he wants the best result as well.
“I haven’t put too much thought into it (2020) either. Of course I want to be in the team next year, that’s an inevitable goal, of course, it would be nice to know, but not something I’m too worried on.
“In either case, I feel I have made a strong case to stay in F1 next year, whether it be Toro Rosso or Red Bull.
“I just want to focus on these races and see how it goes.”
