Hulkenberg hasn’t given non-F1 options for 2020 ‘much thought’

Nico Hulkenberg claims he hasn’t considered any options outside of Formula 1 next season.

The German is currently in an uncertain situation having lost his seat at Renault and with few really strong alternatives with Alfa Romeo and Red Bull his most likely points of call.

Earlier this summer there has been speculation of a possible Formula E seat at Porsche, which he denied, and now admits he hasn’t contemplated a future off the F1 grid.

“I guess there is that scenario [of not racing in 2020],” Hulkenberg conceded on Thursday ahead of the Japanese GP.

“If it wasn’t to continue here [in F1] after that, I haven’t given it much thought. I think also for me personally I would take some time to get clarity over what I want, find a new challenge.

“Of course I would be in a racing car in the future because it’s what I love doing, it’s my passion, I think only time will tell on that.”

Hulkenberg has previously raced in WEC with Porsche, winning the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours in a one-off appearance and would almost certainly receive plenty of offers away from F1.

For now though, he revealed there was “no news” and “it’s a little bit more of a patient game, we’ll have to wait and see a bit longer”.
