Hungarian GP: Hamilton leads the Red Bulls in Practice 3

Lewis Hamilton set the pace ahead of the two Red Bulls in final practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Much like Friday, teams spent the final hour running used tyres thanks to the new alternate allocation Formula 1 is trialling this weekend.

However, with 10 minutes to go, the top three all completed runs on new soft tyres with the Mercedes driver posting a 1m17.811s to lead Max Verstappen by a quarter of a second.

The Dutchman’s lap was a little compromised due to traffic leaving him in second, as teammate Sergio Perez finished just 0.006s behind in third.

Nico Hulkenberg produced a strong lap on soft tyres to take fourth for Haas, while Lando Norris set his best time on medium tyres in fifth.

George Russell was three-tenths slower than Hamilton in sixth, ahead of the two Ferraris as Charles Leclerc led Carlos Sainz.

Fernando Alonso sat in ninth after a mistake-ridden soft tyre lap in his Aston Martin and Valtteri Bottas completed the top 10.

Respective teammates Lance Stroll and Zhou Guanyu followed in 11th and 12th, with Alex Albon the fastest Williams in 13th.

Oscar Piastri was 14th, as Kevin Magnussen managed the fastest Sector 1 time despite only finishing 15th.

    Kevin is P15 ⏱️ 1:18.649.

MAG particularly competitive in the first sector, he currently holds the purple fastest sector time, but not as much for the other two sectors. #HaasF1 #HunagrianGP #FP3 pic.twitter.com/MTXXpzdGoh

Alpine had a subdued session with Pierre Gasly 16th and Esteban Ocon 19th.

Logan Sargeant was 17th, while Daniel Ricciardo claimed 18th, three-tenths faster than AlphaTauri teammate Yuki Tsunoda in 20th.

With a genuine pecking order still hard to define, all the answers will come in a revised qualifying session later on Saturday.

This will see teams mandated to run Hard tyres in Q1, Mediums in Q2 and Softs in Q3.
