    Hungarian GP: Latifi leads after late flurry of action in wet Practice 3

    Nicholas Latifi went quickest for Williams after a late flurry of fast laps in Practice 3 at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

    As forecast, the weather did a complete 180 compared to Friday as cold, wet conditions arrived in Budapest with a heavy downpour shortly before the session began.

    However, drivers wasted little time getting out on track with everyone on full wets except Fernando Alonso on intermediates.

    Charles Leclerc set the pace for Ferrari before more rain hit the Hungaroring sending most drivers back to the garage.

    Eventually, conditions improved again but tyre warm-up proved a significant problem as most switched to intermediates, with Mercedes in-particular struggling.

    Sebastian Vettel showed good pace in the Aston Martin but pushed a bit too hard as he slid into the barrier causing a red flag.

    With the sun starting to peep through, the session resumed with four minutes to go, giving drivers a few laps to improve.

    And Williams would capitalise with Alex Albon going fastest before Latifi posted a 1m41.480s, nine-tenths faster than his teammate.

    Leclerc put himself between the two Williams drivers in second as Max Verstappen, who was among the last to venture out on track, moved up to fourth.

    George Russell managed to find some rear grip on his last lap to take fifth for Mercedes, 1.4s faster than teammate Lewis Hamilton in 11th.

    Alonso led fellow Spaniard Carlos Sainz in sixth and seventh respectively, ahead of Lando Norris in eighth for McLaren.

    Vettel’s best time before his crash kept him ninth as Kevin Magnussen completed the top 10 in the Haas.

    At the bottom of the timesheet was Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull as a massive 6.7s covered the 20 drivers in the tricky conditions.
