Aprilia rider Andrea Iannone has been provisionally suspended from MotoGP after failing a drugs test during the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend.
A statement from the FIM revealed the Italian had been found with a prohibited non-specified substance under the Exogenous Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) list published by WADA, the global anti-doping agency in sports.
That makes his indefinite suspension from competition mandatory under the regulations until Iannone’s B sample has been analysed, although he also has the option to request the ban be lifted while it is still provisional.
The 30-year-old had just completed his first season with Aprilia finishing 16th in the standings with a best finish of sixth in Australia but would retire from the final two races, including at Sepang where the failed drugs test took place.
