Ricciardo wary of midfield madness starting P11 in Baku

Daniel Ricciardo is fearful of the chaos that can take place in the midfield as he lines up P11 for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The Australian enjoyed a better qualifying than perhaps expected, particularly after he just scrambled into Q2 with a last-gasp lap before a red flag was called for Robert Kubica's crash.

Certainly, it hasn't been a great weekend for Renault, who will have Nico Hulkenberg starting 16th and Ricciardo isn't making any predictions for the race.

"Considering how the weekend has gone so far, we should probably lower our expectations," he commented.

"This weekend we were a bit behind the pace. Small things cause big change. We have changed things and there is definitely room for improvement."

The crucial thing, Ricciardo admits, is to simply make the finish in Baku, however, as he knows from experience after his win 2017 and disappointment last year.

“You never know what can happen here. I start in the middle of the midfield and things can get tough here," he stated.

"We have to drive a nice race and drive to the front like that."
