Haas head into Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix with trepidation but hope they can remain ahead in the midfield.

The American outfit dominated qualifying finishing 0.7s clear as Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen claimed seventh and eighth.

However, sustaining strong grid positions has been a problem this year due to problems maintaining heat in the tyres.

"I’m very hopeful that this track is better for us," Magnussen commented.

"It looked ok in the long runs yesterday, not as good as qualifying, but a little bit better than in previous races.

"This track is one that is pretty hard to overtake so the guys behind us need to be quite a lot faster to get past us.

“Of course I’m nervous after the first races of the year where we’ve been struggling in the race," the Dane noted.

"But also we’ve brought some upgrades to the car this weekend and, as I said, long runs on Friday looked better than the previous races so I’m positive we can have a good race tomorrow.”

Teammate Grosjean is more confident though, expecting Haas' problems at least not to occur on Sunday. 

“I have faith that the car will be good tomorrow,” said the Frenchman.

“We’ve been working hard and here, we knew our problems should disappear. It doesn’t mean that it’s not (an) underlying (problem) and we don’t need to keep working for the rest of the circuits but here we knew it would be good.

“The race should be alright. Yesterday was ok, not incredibly fast but fast enough to keep the guys behind so we’re happy with that.”
