Nicholas Latifi has brushed off suggestions he could join Williams this season.

This past weekend, Canadian outlet Le Journal de Montreal reported that the current Formula 2 championship leader could be being lined up to replace Robert Kubica.

However, despite completing a two-day test with Williams this week in Barcelona, Latifi insists he's only focused on his current racing activities.

“Of course my goal is to get into Formula 1, but my program this year is focused on F2 and that is my priority,” he was quoted by the GPBlog.com.

“I have to concentrate on maintaining my current form there and winning the championship. If I do that, I think I will find myself in a good position to go to F1 next year."

As the reserve driver at Williams, he is well-placed to gain a promotion should a seat become available, although there is also the threat from Esteban Ocon, with Mercedes keen to get the Frenchman back on the grid.

For now, however, Latifi believes it is too early to think about next year.

“Honestly, not yet. The season has just begun and a lot can happen," he said on if any talks had taken place.

"But if you look at the past, and those who won the F2 and GP2 titles, I think most of them found themselves in F1.

“From my point of view, if I win the championship, then my goal is an immediate transition to F1.”
