Kimi Raikkonen was confident that he and Alfa Romeo made progress during their test on Wednesday in Spain.

The Finn was back behind the wheel for the first time since a disappointing 14th place during the Grand Prix on Sunday and admitted post-race the extra day of running was much-needed.

And while the Swiss-based team was setback by a crash on Tuesday for Ferrari Academy member Callum Ilott, the Finn was satisfied with his 110 laps.

“It was a pretty good day in the car," he commented. “After yesterday’s issues we had to change our testing programme slightly but we managed to go through all the different things we wanted to try.

“We had the chance to work with different compounds, we worked on the set-up and we put a few different parts on the car, so it was a busy day."

With Alfa at risk of dropping down the pecking order in the midfield, Raikkonen concluded his summation with a positive outlook.

“I feel that if we did the race weekend again [in Barcelona], we’d be stronger than we were," he said.
