For Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc, the keyword after practice in Monaco was tyres.

Ferrari endured another less than competitive day as Vettel finished 0.7s behind the leading Mercedes in the second session.

Only problems for Max Verstappen and teammate Charles Leclerc allowed the German to finish third fastest, but his evaluation of the day wasn't good reading.

“We tried a lot of things, they didn’t really work so it was not that productive,” Vettel said.

“Overall we are struggling a bit, obviously lacking a bit of pace compared to Mercedes, struggling a bit to get the tyres to really work, so a bit of work ahead of us."

Trying to pinpoint the main issue, Vettel added: “It’s a bit of everything, so not exactly what you’d like around here.

"You’d like to know what the car is going to do so you can anticipate a bit more. But I’m sure come Saturday things should calm down. Maybe it’s a bit warmer as well, it could help us.”

As for the hometown hero, Leclerc was only 10th fastest after his qualifying simulation was ruined by a lock-up into the Nouvelle chicane.

“The second session was a bit more difficult to put the car in the right window, including also the tyres. We have just been struggling quite a lot," he explained.

"We are not on the level of Mercedes either, so we need to push hard, and we will see on Saturday."
