Daniel Ricciardo is looking forward to teaming up with Esteban Ocon at Renault in 2020.

Having stepped out from the growing shadow of Max Verstappen at Red Bull, the Australian once again faces the prospect of going up against one of Formula 1's highly-rated youngsters.

But rather than perhaps having a sense of deja vu, Ricciardo insists he will approach taking on Ocon with optimism.

“For me, the way I see a new teammate actually is, selfishly, a way to improve,” he told Holland's Ziggo Sport.

“Every driver has something different. It is impossible to better in every phase of every corner every single day.

“Naturally, you’re not always going to be faster. Even if it is one corner then you can still learn something.

“Having another driver in is another way for me to study, to learn, to improve, ok it’s not great for the team with stability, but with driving it is a chance to learn more.

“I’m looking forward to it and it should be fun.”

Certainly, it promises to be an important battle for Ricciardo and his F1 future as he is out of contract at Renault beyond next year and there has already been talk of his departure.
