Pascal Wehrlein is set to join Porsche for season seven of Formula E and will Mahindra with immediate effect, according to The Race.

The report claims that Wehrlein and Porsche have been in talks over the past few weeks and it has now been agreed that the German will likely replace Neel Jani at the team from next season.

The former Formula 1 man had a contract with Mahindra until the end of next season, but is said to have now ended that agreement, meaning he is unlikely to compete for the team when Formula E returns to complete the 2019/20 season later this year.

Wehrlein arrived in Formula E one race into the 2018/19 season as a replacement for the IndyCar-bound Felix Rosenqvist and secured a podium in just his second race in Santiago, Chile.

The 25-year-old has managed two points-scoring finishes this season, including a fourth-place finish in Santiago, in what has otherwise been a difficult start to the year for Mahindra, who sit 10th in the overall team standings.

Jani, the man Wehrlein will be replacing at Porsche, has struggled to get the best out of his Porsche entry this term and is yet to score a point this season, with his best finish a 13th place in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.

Alongside Andre Lotterer Jani has consistently been beaten in both qualifying and race trim and will now hope to impress in the final rounds of season six as he looks to secure a drive for next year.
