Australian squad AMAC Motorsport will compete in GT World Challenge Asia GT3 Am Cup category for a third consecutive season this year.

Reigning class champions Andrew Macpherson and Ben Porter first made their mark in 2018 before switching to Lamborghini’s latest specification Huracan GT3 at the start of last season. Six victories and a string of further podium finishes helped them wrap up the title before Shanghai’s season finale.

Now they and the team are back hoping to become the first crew in any of the championship’s categories to retain a title.

“The goal is very clear: we’re coming back to defend our championship,” said Macpherson. “Everyone in the team loves the opportunity to race across Asia at some of the continent’s best circuits, and that passion is as strong now as it was when we first joined in 2018. It won’t be easy – the Am class is growing in stature and we expect to see some strong line-ups coming out of Asia this year. But Ben and I have the benefit of experience: we know the car, team and how each of us works, so we fully expect to be fighting for class honours again.”

Indeed, two new teams and driver combinations are already confirmed for this year’s Am class: Legacy Racing field Malaysians Tengku Djan Ley and Leona Chin, while Zun Motorsport Crew upgrade from race-by-race to full-season status with Andrew Kim and Ma Ka Chun.

Macpherson and Porter begin their quest for a second GT3 Am Cup title at Sepang in Malaysia on March 28/29 before the six-round, 11-race championship visits Thailand, Japan and China.
