Toyota quickest on the test day for the 24 Hours of Le Mans

After 8 hours of testing on the full 13.6km La Sarthe circuit the no8 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050-Hybrid of Fernando Alonso, Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastien Buemi was the quickest car as the end of the test day.

Buemi set a 2m19.440 in the afternoon session, 0.809s ahead of the no7 Toyota, with Mike Conway setting the best time of 3m20.249.  The no1 Rebellion Racing R13-Gibson was the fastest of the non hybrid entries, with Andre Lotterer setting a 3m21.323, 1.8 seconds behind the lead Toyota and 0.7s seconds ahead of the no11 SMP Racing BR1-AER of Stoffel Vandoorne.

In the LMGTE Pro class it was the Americans that were out front with the no63 Corvette Racing C7.R of Mike Rockenfeller leading the way with a 3m54.001, just 0.031s ahead of the top WEC car, the no67 Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK Ford GT of Harry Tincknell, the British driver posting a 3m54.032 lap.  The no64 Corvette was third quickest with the no71 AF Corse Ferrrai 488 GTE in fourth and the second fastest WEC entered car.

It was a FIA WEC 1-2-3 in the LMP2 class with the no38 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca of Ho-Pin Tung setting the best time of the day of 3m28.504, nearly three tenths ahead of the second placed car, the no31 Dragonspeed Oreca-Gibson of Pastor Maldonado.  The no36 Signatech Alpine Matmut A470-Gibson was third fastest with a 3m28.997 set by Nico Lapierre.

The best WEC entered car in the LMGTE Am category was no61 Clearwater Racing Ferrari of Matt Griffin, the Irish driver posting a 3m56.923, just 0.061s behind the fastest car in the class, the no62 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari 488 of Toni Villander.

The no54 Spirit of Race Ferrari 488 made it a 1-2-3 in the class for the Italian manufacturer with Giancarlo Fisichella setting the third best class time of the day with a lap of 3m56.935, the top three cars split by just 0.073 seconds.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the 8th and final round of the 2018/19 FIA World Endurance Championship and will take place on the 15/16 June 2019.
