Robert Kubica’s future is potentially becoming clearer with opportunities for a race and reserve driver role both on the table.
The Pole made a much-anticipated comeback to Formula 1 in 2019 but struggled to make an impact at a struggling Williams team and was out-qualified by teammate George Russell 21-0.
Still, Kubica remains a hot commodity for a development driver role in F1 with Haas and Racing Point reportedly vying for his signature.
But after the American outfit requested a decision this week, it now seems Racing Point are the favourites to secure his services for next year.
In addition, BMW, the company with whom Kubica won his only Grand Prix in Canada 11 years ago, has confirmed the 35-year-old will test a DTM car at Jerez with an eye on a seat on the 2020 grid.
“I would like to thank BMW Motorsport for the opportunity to test at Jerez with the BMW M4 DTM,” he commented.
“I am already very much looking forward to the test and to getting to know the DTM race car with its turbo engine. I can well imagine a future in the DTM.
“I am looking for a new challenge, and the DTM is certainly just that. The series has a top-class field and the standard of driving is extremely high. However, we must first wait and see how I get on at the test.”

Following what could be his final F1 race in Abu Dhabi last week, praise is still coming in for Kubica and his achievement to return eight years after sustaining severe injuries in a rally crash.
“I was very happy that he returned to the world of Formula 1,” Mercedes boss Toto Wolff told TVP.
“He has proved to the people who doubted that even with such an injury he can drive the car and fight with it.
“I think he will stay connected to our world in a different role. You never know with Robert, maybe he will come back.
“Without that accident, he would have been world champion and with his knowledge he could still be world champion in another role.”
