Williams reserve driver Robert Kubica could be set to remain in the Formula 1 fold in 2019, taking on a developmental role at Ferrari.
The Pole is still seeking a return to the grid next season, reportedly trying to secure financial backing from his homeland in an effort to improve his chances of taking the seat from Sergey Sirotkin.
However, with the Grove-based team indicating a decision may not be made until the end of the year, Kubica admits that is too long for him to wait.
“Of course the target will be to be on the grid next year, but as I said, I cannot wait until December,” he said.
“The situation is quite clear, and we will see. I think the team is evaluating different scenarios, and they are right to do it and I’m doing, on my side, some other stuff.”
A role at Ferrari is very much on the cards, however, with both Daniil Kvyat and Antonio Giovinazzi, who worked behind the scenes this season, moving into race seats at Toro Rosso and Sauber respectively.
It’s not the first time Kubica has been linked to Maranello either, with the 33-year-old revealing earlier this year he had signed for the Scuderia for 2012 before his rally crash in early 2011 resulted in the injuries which kept him away until 2017.
Even if he does get the role in the simulator, chances of seeing Robert race for Ferrari are slim as Giovinazzi will remain reserve driver despite his full-time F1 drive.
