Charles Leclerc is vowing to lower his tone over the radio after a number of outbursts during last Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix.
The Monegasque argued with his engineer during Safety Car periods, feeling he had been screwed out of victory at Marina Bay as an earlier pit-stop for teammate Sebastian Vettel allowed the German to undercut.
In reality, Ferrari had simply underestimated the amount of time the German would gain on fresh tyres and having now understood the situation, Leclerc has also had time for self-reflection.
“I believe that my reaction was well over what it should be, and that shows that I’ve still got a lot to learn,” Leclerc was quoted by Crash.net on Thursday.

“In this situation, there was absolutely no need to be like this. The team has done the right thing. We finished first and second. We wouldn’t have finished first and second with another strategy, and that’s what matters the most.
“On that, I’ve definitely got a lot to learn and a lot to improve so that won’t happen again in the future.”
So far this season, there has several incidents of Vettel appearing to be favoured by Ferrari and that perhaps led to a little paranoia from Leclerc, who had been establishing himself as certainly equal to his teammate with recent wins.
As for how he would approach a similar situation in the future, the 22-year-old explained he would exercise more caution.
“In the car, it’s always very difficult. There is a lot of adrenaline,” he acknowledged.
“I wake up in the morning thinking about victory, I go to sleep thinking about victory, so sometimes it might be hard.
“I just need to control myself more in these situations, and – how can I say it politely… just shut up!
“I will learn from this, and I will try for it to not happen again.”
