Charles Leclerc isn’t worrying himself about Ferrari downplaying expectations ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

Following a low-key six days of testing in Barcelona, team boss Mattia Binotto has already accepted the Italian team is third in the pecking order behind Mercedes and Ferrari going to Melbourne.

However, rather than get frustrated at the possibility of an early setback to his 2020 season, Leclerc simply wants to keep working.

“I just focus on driving to be honest,” the Monegasque said via Crash.net. “Anything that is talk, talk doesn’t really matter in the end.

“I’m just focusing on my own job and trying to improve from where we are. We’ve got a lot of work to do so I try to focus as much as possible on what’s concerning me.”

Should Ferrari’s fears be realised in Australia, Leclerc does have confidence that the Scuderia will make progress to catch up.

“I believe that last year we had quite a big improvement from the first race to the last race,” he said. “I think we got closer to Mercedes.

“We just need to put our head down, try to focus on ourselves as always and I’m confident that we will make the steps forward and the ones we need to get closer in the case we are behind at the first race.”

Let’s see if Leclerc is as calm after the chequered flag in a week’s time!
