Leclerc vows to maintain Silverstone aggression should stewards permit it

Charles Leclerc has no problem keeping his hard approach to racing wheel-to-wheel from Silverstone for the rest of the season.

The Monegasque and Max Verstappen stole the show with a wonderful battle which pushed the boundaries of the regulations but the stewards decided never went beyond them.

For Leclerc, his approach was a step up from Spielberg two weeks earlier and considered it a lesson learnt after having lost the win to the Dutchman that day.

“I think Austria was an eye-opener,” the Ferrari driver told Crash.net. “I think I’ve understood that the stewards are letting it go a little bit more, which is nice.

“I think it’s good for drivers, it’s good for the show and that’s what we all want. I’ve adapted to this in the last race and my target is to stay on this level of aggressiveness for the rest of the season.”

Reflecting on the action at Silverstone, Leclerc thinks all the right ingredients were there for that type of racing to take place.

“I think the track is quite a good one to overtake and for fighting in general,” he said.

“Overall, by fighting I knew I was also losing some time, [but] I think their [Red Bull’s] pace during the race was very quick, quicker than ours so they managed to stay behind but yeah, it was a good situation at least for the spectators and to watch the race on TV.

“In the car, it was a little bit more intense but was good to have a battle like this.”

Leclerc would conclude, however, by dismissing more aggression alone will be enough to beat Verstappen in future duels.

“No not at all, just your aggressiveness with the rules there is and this is for all drivers,” he stated.

“I think the strength of drivers is to adapt to every different situation and sometimes it happens like this year, I think where they are just a little bit more free with banging wheels and hard racing and on these things you need to adapt.”
