This seasons London E-Prix that was set to be held on the 25th and 26th July has officially been cancelled due to the Covid-19 worldwide pandemic.

The Excel centre has been turned into the Nightingale hospital to help the fight against Covid-19. The hospital provided 4,000 beds for COVID-19 patients.

Formula E has sent an email out to ticket holders explaining that the race has been cancelled and that refunds will be available.

“Formula E and FIA fully support the rededication of the site,” says the electric series. “Given the conditions and the time needed to prepare for the operational excellence of our events, we decided to cancel the London E-Prix. The priority of Formula E is the health and safety of all fans and our community of employees, teams, manufacturers, Partners, drivers and residents.”

Formula E is looking into the possibility of hosting the race later in the year.

“We are evaluating the possibility of hosting a race in the UK later in the season. However, in the current circumstances, this event may need to take place behind closed doors.

“The priority of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is the health and safety of our fans and the entire Formula E community of staff, teams, manufacturers, partners and drivers, as well as the citizens and residents of the cities in which we race.”

The New York E-Prix is the only race that has yet to be officially cancelled or postponed due to the outbreak.  However, confirmation that the American race will be postponed or cancelled is expected in the near future.

In order for a Formula E champion to be chosen, at least six events must be scheduled in one season. So far, however, only four events have been held in Saudi Arabia (counts as one event despite the doubleheader), Chile, Mexico and Morocco.
