Maserati confirms MC20 GT2 to join GT2 European Series in 2023

Maserati has today confirmed the launch of the MC20 GT2, together with its intentions to compete in the GT2 European Series from 2023.

Based on the models’ road-going version, the MC20 GT2 inherits its best-in-class specifications. These include the innovative Nettuno engine with new Maserati Twin Combustion (MTC) technology, double-wishbone suspension with semi-virtual steering axis and carbon fibre monocoque.

Maserati’s welcome return to GT competition links the brand’s new era with the MC12’s victorious heritage, in both the FIA GT Championships (2004 to 2010), and 24 Hours of Spa (2005, 2006 and 2008). Maserati now ushers in the new Maserati Corse era, which pays homage to its glorious sporting history.

In the words of Davide Grasso, Maserati CEO: “We are driven by our passion, both on the road and on the track. We have a long history of world excellence in motorsport and we are extremely proud to race with the extraordinary MC20. Racing has always been Maserati’s natural habitat and now, both in the GT2 European Series Championship and in the Formula E Championship, this brand is making a new start from its roots to build the future.”

Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP, STELLANTIS Motorsport, stated: “Maserati Corse is bringing the link between Formula E factory program and our road cars with the MC20 GT2. This new step is completing the legacy and the legitimacy of Maserati in Motorsport. The MC20 is a fantastic road legal car. We are happy that our passionate customer will enjoy racing with it”.

Stéphane Ratel, SRO Motorsports Founder and CEO, adds: “With the MC12 being a car steeped in SRO history, I am absolutely delighted to welcome Maserati back to GT racing with the MC20, especially in the GT2 category for which SRO has the highest ambitions.

“This category is exclusively reserved for prestigious GT supercars. It is initially designed to retain the presence of non-professional drivers in GT racing, whilst being fast and spectacular enough to secure the values of SRO-promoted championships, should the current GT3 category become too expensive for too many of our teams and drivers.

“We can’t wait to see the Maserati MC20 GT2 competing in the GT2 European Series next year, and we will release more information about the future of the GT2 category in the coming days and months.”
