Karl Massad scored his first podium result in British F4 after claiming third in Race 1 at Thruxton, Which is hosting the third round of the 2017 FIA British Formula 4, on Saturday.

Strong pace in testing had sent positive vibes ahead of this weekend, so eighth place in morning qualifying was a little lower than hoped.

However, he was able to fight through the field in the early laps in Race 1, quickly making places and showing great consistency to take third behind race winner Jamie Caroline and Alex Quinn.

“Qualifying didn’t go as planned, we had a bit of oversteer and a car balance I wasn’t comfortable with in the last sector, even if I was quite fast,” he admitted.

“I had to start eighth but it was awesome battle from the first lap to the last lap with the best drivers, managing to get to third position by Lap 5 before pulling out a gap to the guy in fourth.

“It was great to get the first podium and will give me confidence going forward,” Karl added.

“I can’t wait for Race 2 and 3 tomorrow!”

Looking ahead to Sunday, Massaad will start fourth for Race 2, but the difficult qualifying means he will slip down to eighth again on the grid for the final race of the weekend.
