Mathematically it’s still possible: Bagnaia keeps hope alive for MotoGP title

The 2024 MotoGP World Championship is set for a dramatic conclusion at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya after heavy flooding forced the cancellation of the Valencia Grand Prix.

The title fight between Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin will now be decided on the Spanish track, a venue where both riders have shown strong form. Bagnaia secured a victory earlier this year, while Martin has consistently finished on the podium in recent seasons.

“Barcelona is a good track for both of us,” said Martin. “Pecco won last Sunday there; I was second, quite close, for sure I missed a bit but we will understand why.”

Despite the late change of venue, both riders remain optimistic about their chances. Bagnaia, who trails Martin by 24 points, acknowledges the challenge but remains determined. “Mathematically it’s still possible,” he said. “We know that it’s quite difficult, but in Barcelona everything can happen.”

For Martin, the focus is on maintaining his momentum and securing the championship. “For me, the confidence doesn’t change a lot coming to this race or coming to the next race,” he said. “I just think that it’s a privilege to be at this point, battling with a champion like Pecco is crazy so for sure I’m confident.”

With the championship on the line and the unpredictable nature of the Barcelona track, fans can expect an exciting and intense finale to the 2024 MotoGP season.
