McLaren first to launch their 2021 car, the MCL35M

McLaren has become the first Formula 1 to unveil their 2021 car, the MCL35M, in a virtual launch on Monday.

Last year, the Woking-based team built on their momentum from 2019, enjoying their best season since 2012 after narrowly beating Racing Point into third in the Constructors’ Championship.

For 2021, McLaren reunites with an old friend as they switch from Renault to Mercedes power, looking to bring back the glory days which saw Mika Hakkinen and Lewis Hamilton win three F1 titles.

Of course, doing that is unlikely this season with the regulations somewhat static, but McLaren has had more than leeway most as they were allowed to adapt their car to its new engine.

The new car also gives F1 fans a first look at the new floor designs for 2021, which have been mandated to cut downforce levels.

For the launch, McLaren hasn’t given too much away, but everyone will be keeping an eye on their rivals come pre-season testing next month.

The other big change for 2021 is the arrival of Daniel Ricciardo from Renault, who will team up with Lando Norris, with the Briton embarking on his third F1 season.
