Michael Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm has tipped his son Mick to one day become a Formula 1 world champion.
The 20-year-old has spent stints of 2019 in the spotlight after his big call up to Formula 2 after claiming the European F3 title last year and also made his first appearance in a modern F1 car, driving for Ferrari at the Bahrain test in April.
Disappointingly, however, Mick has had an unspectacular first year in F2 with some strong results, including a first win in Hungary, but also a lot of retirements.
“Mick has had a very unlucky season,’ Kehm noted, speaking to Germany’s Die Welt.
“I sympathise with him because he has struggled with an incredible amount of bad luck.
“Of course he also still has a lot to learn, but I think Mick is very good at analysing things, learning the right lessons and then making adjustments.”

Next season, bigger things are expected given Schumacher’s history of slowing adapting to new categories and also the likely prospect of an Alfa Romeo seat for 2021 the end result.
“I am sure that Mick will end up in Formula 1. Sooner or later, though I hope it’s the former,” Kehm continued.
“I really believe he can become world champion. That is what he is working for.”
Mick isn’t the only Schumacher that has had to compete and live up to Michael’s standard though, with his brother Ralf also continually compared to the seven-time champion during his F1 career.
Speaking in the latest Beyond the Grid podcast though, the former Jordan, Williams and Toyota driver admits his own achievements were due largely to the 50-year-old.
“The question is, ‘Would I have made it to Formula 1 if Michael wouldn’t have been there?’, I cannot tell you, I don’t think so,” he said.
“Everything the way it went was OK, it just didn’t work out. For sure, [it was] down to me sometimes and [I was] a bit unlucky with things and accidents I had.”
Ralf ended his decade on the F1 grid with six wins and 27 podiums to his name.
