Mick Schumacher was taken aback by the performance of the Formula 2 cars as he completed his first test day in Abu Dhabi.
After claiming the European F3 championship with eight wins to his name this year, the son of seven-time world champion Michael confirmed he would take the next logical step up the motorsport ladder this week.
Then, on Thursday at Yas Marina, Schumacher got the first taste of the machine he’ll be driving in 2019.
“Incredible, I was very excited!” he told Motorsport-Magazin.com of the experience.
Later on Twitter, Mick added: “The performance and weight are the biggest differences compared to a Formula 3 car, and it’s amazing how much faster you can go in a straight line.
“We only did aerodynamic tests because we are trying to improve the car, but I would like to do even a few extra fast laps on the limit.”

The 19-year-old also spoke about the decision to remain at Prema in F2, rather than try to push for an immediate jump into F1.
“I feel ready for the task and it was logical to stay with the Prema also in this category,” he said.
“We’ll see about the rest in the future. We’ll take it one step at a time. There’s no hurry.”
