Charles Leclerc continued to set the pace as Carlos Sainz made it a Ferrari one-two in Practice 2 at the Monaco Grand Prix.

As all the drivers tried the soft tyres for the first time, the Monte Carlo native improved dramatically on his FP1 time setting a 1m12.656s.

The two Prancing Horses’ enjoyed a three-tenths advantage over the Red Bulls with third-placed Sergio Perez appearing more comfortable than teammate Max Verstappen in fourth.

Lando Norris remained ‘best of the rest’ in fifth for McLaren ahead of George Russell in sixth.

Pierre Gasly was seventh with Fernando Alonso eighth, 1.3s faster than Alpine teammate Esteban Ocon down in 18th.

Sebastian Vettel sat in ninth and Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top 10 in the second AlphaTauri.

The big incident of FP2 was a hefty crash for Daniel Ricciardo in the Swimming Pool section. The Australian lost the rear exiting the first part and slid into the barrier causing a red flag.

His accident came but a few minutes after Vettel had come within centimetres of an identical crash as the high-speed chicane proves to be a bigger challenge in the new 2022 cars.

Further down, Lewis Hamilton experimented with setup, explaining why he was only 12th.

Valtteri Bottas was 13th and Mick Schumacher 17th as both looked to make up for lost time following MGU-H issues in Practice 1.

It is advantage Ferrari then after Friday with all eyes moving to one of the most exciting days of the season on Saturday, qualifying day in Monaco!
