Norris seeks fair battle with Verstappen for F1 title

Lando Norris is keen on having a “clean” and “fair” battle with Max Verstappen for this year’s F1 world title, stressing that “it’s for the other side to change.”

This statement follows Verstappen receiving 20 seconds of penalties for two separate incidents involving Norris during the recent Mexican Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver has faced considerable backlash for his driving style in Mexico, with pundits like Martin Brundle warning that Verstappen risks tarnishing his legacy.

Damon Hill, the 1996 world champion, also weighed in, questioning whether Verstappen can race cleanly and whether Red Bull’s management holds him accountable for his actions on track.

In the pre-weekend FIA press conference, Verstappen appeared unfazed by the criticism directed at him.

Norris reiterated his desire for fair racing, saying,

“I want clean, fair racing. It’s what I do. It’s how I’ve always raced in my career. It’s not for me to change, it’s for the other side to change.”

He expressed that his approach to racing has always been centered on fairness and respect on the track.

As McLaren’s lead in the constructors’ championship has dwindled to 29 points, partly due to Ferrari’s resurgence, Norris remained unfazed by the situation.

He stated, “No, it’s not a concern. We’re working hard… Our focus is not on Red Bull; it’s on Ferrari.”

With Ferrari showcasing impressive performances, including a 1-2 finish in Austin and a 1-3 finish in Mexico, Norris emphasized the need for McLaren to continue putting in their best effort as they strive to keep pace with the competition.
