Lando Norris apologised for what he called “careless” comments following last Sunday’s Portuguese Grand Prix.
The McLaren driver saw a great opening lap in the damp conditions at Portimao ruined by a collision by Lance Stroll as he tried a kamikaze move at Turn 1.
After that, Norris blasted the Canadian, claiming he “doesn’t seem to learn from anything he does”.
Then, when asked later about Lewis Hamilton surpassing Michael Schumacher with the most wins ever in Formula 1, he downplayed it’s significance due to the lack of competition.
“I’m just happy for him, nothing more,” he was quoted by RaceFans. “It doesn’t mean anything to me, really. He’s in a car which should win every race, basically.
“He has to beat one or two other drivers, that’s it. Fair play to him, he’s still doing the job he has to do.”

While Norris’ view on both matters are more than justified, and offers a change to actually hear a driver speak their mind, he took to social media on Tuesday to apologise.
“I owe an apology. I’ve been stupid and careless with some things I’ve said lately in media and interviews, and haven’t shown the respect I should have to certain people,” he said.
“I’m not that kind of person, so know I should apologise to them but also everyone reading/listening. Sorry.”
