Progress still the goal at Alfa Romeo as new C39 hits the track

Progress remains the aim as Alfa Romeo kick-off their 2020 season in Barcelona.

Last season was a mixed one for the Swiss team as they made a strong start via Kimi Raikkonen, but slipped back towards the end, with a fourth and fifth in Brazil their only top 10s in the final six races.

This year, the midfield battle is only expected to be more competitive, and Alfa know they have to keep up in the development race to build on two straight eighth places in the Constructors’ standings.

“The C39 is the product of the hard work and vision of a large group of highly committed individuals and it’s testament to the quality of everyone in our team,” said team principal Fréd Vasseur as their new car was launched in the pit-lane prior to the start of winter testing.

“We hope it will help us move the team forward and achieve our objectives. Our target hasn’t changed: we want to do a better job tomorrow than we did today.

“We are a growing team and still have to improve in every single area and every single department of the company. This is an open-ended project, there is no finish line – everyone has to be fully focused and dedicated.

“We are moving forward, we already did a huge step compared to where we were at the beginning of 2018 but we have to continue on this path.”

Raikkonen remains with Alfa for what is the final year of his current contract, as does Antonio Giovinazzi, who will need to build on the progress he showed towards the end of 2019.

They have also been joined by Robert Kubica as test driver, with the Pole the first man to take the new car on track on Wednesday.
