Raikkonen unhappy as jump start continues dismal run in Sochi

Kimi Raikkonen was left disappointed after being unable to capitalise on a reprieve from his jump-start at the Russian Grand Prix.

Following a run of races when the lights went out immediately after the fifth came on, the Finn was caught out by a longer pause in Sochi as he jolted forward before stopping again.

That resulted in a drive-through penalty putting him at the back of the field, but while admitting his mistake, it was the pace of his Alfa Romeo which hurt him more.

“Obviously the race was my fault,” he told RaceFans.

“In the end, we got back in the race with the Safety Cars and we managed to un-lap ourselves, but, unfortunately, we just didn’t have enough speed.

“We could just hang in with Toro Rosso and I passed one guy but basically I passed him because they were fighting against each other [and] he ran wide.”

Ultimately, Raikkonen ended 13th, a result which resulted in his longest pointless streak of the season having not claimed a top 10 since Hungary.

“We have to understand, the last four races have been nightmares and we need to figure out what’s going wrong and where and clean up and understand things,” he added.

“Out of the last races only Spa we actually [had] speed. The rest has been more or less fighting with it.”
