Red Bull: F1 Constructors’ title just as ‘big’ as Drivers’ crown in 2022

A fifth Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship would be just as “big” for Red Bull as back-to-back Drivers’ titles in 2022.

The Milton Keynes-based outfit is in a dominant position with seven races to go, leading Ferrari by 135 points in the Teams’ standings while Max Verstappen has a 109-point advantage as he cruises to a second consecutive Drivers’ Crown.

Indeed, even team boss Christian Horner can’t deny the silverware is already pretty much in the bag.

“We are in a great position,” he told Sky Sports post-race in Zandvoort.

“We’d probably have to try quite hard to lose it, but mathematically, nothing is done until it’s done.

“Our approach is as it’s always been, go one race at a time. Next race, next Sunday, same effort. We don’t allow ourselves to think too far ahead.”

On his current trajectory, Verstappen looks set to wrap up the title around Suzuka early next month, but Red Bull is particularly eager to end the long reign of Mercedes as Constructors’ champions.

“The Constructors’, that’s team versus team, has been dominated by next door for the last eight years,” Horner added.

“If we manage to bring that one home, that for us is as big as the Drivers’ this year.”

But for now, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko is simply enjoying the journey.

“It [F1] has rarely been so much fun,” Marko told Austria’s OE24. “Almost every weekend is a pleasure, quite different from last season where everything cost a lot of nerves.

“It’s just a bit of a shame that Ferrari makes so many mistakes,” he added. “They are beaten below their value, we really feel sorry for them.

“But they will be back, they have such a strong car.”
