Red Bull: Gasly has ‘just got to get on with it’ after practice crash

Red Bull boss Christian Horner says Pierre Gasly has to “get on with it” after crashing during practice for the German Grand Prix.

The Frenchman had a difficult day at Hockenheim with vibrations at the front of the car under braking in the morning, before oversteering into the barrier at the final corner during the race simulation in the afternoon.

The damage from the crash appeared quite extensive on the left side with both wheels coming off, but Horner doesn’t expect any lasting effects.

“It’s early days,” he told Sky Sports. “We need to get the chassis back and get a proper look at it first but it was about a 10G impact.

“You can see some of the damage but thankfully it wasn’t his race gearbox or race engine, so just frustrating really to lose the car at that point of the session.”

The Red Bull chief also admitted the poor day was not what the doctor ordered after Gasly’s impressive weekend at Silverstone, where he finished fourth.

“But it’s only free practice, we’ll get the car rebuilt tonight and build on that for tomorrow,” he added.

“It’s an annoying accident but it is what it is and we can’t change it now, just got to get on with it.”

As for Gasly himself, he was quick to apologise for the extra workload he gave his mechanics.

“I’m really sorry for the boys in the garage and I want to apologise to them as the repairs will make for a long night,” he said.

“It was quite a tricky day today. We managed to get some decent laps during FP1 and the feeling with the car was good.

“We completed the normal tests and then in FP2, we had a couple of issues which meant we didn’t get a short run on soft tyres and that put us back in the classifications, but the feeling was still good.

“Looking ahead to tomorrow, the conditions are going to be completely different so we need to learn from today and analyse all the tests we have done.”
