Renault has included an engine update as part of the upgrades on Daniel Ricciardo’s car for the French Grand Prix.
Following on from a sixth and seventh in Canada, the Enstone-based outfit has looked to consolidate that midfield-leading performance with their biggest development push so far for their home race at Paul Ricard.
It was expected the improvements would just be chassis-based but now Renault has confirmed the Australian also has a new V6 unit.
“We will introduce a new Spec-B internal combustion engine this weekend on Daniel’s car,” the team tweeted. “This ICE represents a good step forward on performance.”

Renault then explained why the same update will not be given to teammate Nico Hulkenberg.
“Nico will take his new engine at a future race, but as he will incur a penalty for exceeding the three ICEs permitted per year, we don’t want it to be in France, our home race,” the tweets continued.
“The ICE was scheduled for use at a later race, but we are ahead of schedule so are pleased to be able to use here.”
