Daniel Ricciardo believes the United States Grand Prix could well be a “lottery” as the weather may leave teams with very little data heading into the race.
Both of Friday’s practice sessions were largely washed out in Austin and more rain is expected on Saturday for qualifying, however, dry conditions are forecast for Sunday meaning the only slick running done all weekend could be in the race.
“I think we’re looking alright, it seemed decent this morning, the first few laps we did,” Ricciardo said after Red Bull finished third and fourth to the Mercedes in the more meaningful first session.
“Then in the dry, who knows. I think it will be a lottery on Sunday for the race.
“I don’t know if Ferrari had struggles or whatever, but we looked to be… podium, we’ll try and target that.”

The Australian and teammate Max Verstappen were two of four drivers not to go out at all in the afternoon with a limitation on tyres the main reason.
“The tyres we used this morning, we would have used for the afternoon, but I picked up a puncture,” Ricciardo revealed.
“Anything we used now would have taken away from qualifying if it’s wet and qualifying is more important which is why we want to have all the tyres available.”
