Ricciardo, Verstappen keen to see Dutch GP rescheduled

Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen are both eager to see the return of the Dutch Grand Prix go ahead in 2020.

The event was certainly one of the most anticipated for this year at the revised Zandvoort circuit but had to be postponed from its original May 3 date amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Ricciardo is certainly no stranger to the historic track, which last held an F1 race in 1985, and he’s excited to see what the changes, including a new final corner with 18 degrees of banking, have done.

“I am really sorry that Zandvoort has been postponed,” Ricciardo said in a message aired on Ziggo Sport.

“Hopefully they will find a new place on the calendar for that, I was really looking forward to that race.

“I was looking forward to seeing the curves and all other adjustments they have made for us. It looks really cool. We will see what happens. ”

Of course for Verstappen, it is set to be his first home race (if we ignore the fact he was born in Belgium) and he has already sampled the updated Zandvoort layout during a media event there back in March.

“I am really impressed with the work that has been done so far by everyone involved,” he said when the race was called off. “I hope to be driving the challenging new track at Zandvoort again soon.”

For now, however: “At the moment through the current situation, I try to stay at home as much as possible of course and try to do my workouts at home,” he said in a social media video this week.

“Of course we stay ready, we do sim work – on my simulator at home – and of course a lot of training as well to stay ready for whenever we’re going to get started again.

“I hope you guys are staying healthy in the meantime and I hope to see you guys all very soon.”
