Oliver Rowland made it back to back victories in Formula E’s doubleheader final, as Stoffel Vandoorne claimed the Race At Home Championship under controversial circumstances.
Pascal Wehrlein was leading the championship going into the final double-points race by 22 points over Vandoorne, but at Turn 3 Vandoorne was hit into by drivers behind him which forced the Belgian’s car to hit Wehrelin who was in front and spun him around dropping the Mahindra driver to 21st.
Wehrlein did fight through the field to try and score points in the race, but the German driver came home in ninth place but was given a ten-second penalty after contact with Felipe Massa on the final lap which dropped Wehrlein to 12th.
After lap one, it was plain sailing for Vandoorne and Rowland, as they raced away at the front. Vandoorne was unable to catch the two-second gap that Rowland had pulled out, which allowed the Nissan driver to secure victory in front of Vandoorne.
Maximilian Gunther finished the race in third. The BMW driver was in contention for the title, but he needed both Vandoorne and Wehrelin not to score points in the race.
Edorado Mortara finished the are in fourth for Venturi ahead of Sebastien Buemi in fifth in the second Nissan car.
Nyck De Vries came home in seventh ahead of Felipe Massa. Kelvin Van Der Linde was promoted to ninth after Wehrlein’s penalty and Andre Lotterer finished in tenth.
