Carlos Sainz has teased the possibility of moving teams in 2021, suggesting he could be successful anywhere.

The Spaniard enjoyed something of a breakout year in his first season at McLaren in 2019, beating two Red Bull drivers, Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon, to finish sixth in the Drivers’ Championship.

That has put Sainz in the hat as a possible replacement for Sebastian Vettel, should the German opt to leave Ferrari at the end of the year.

Previously, he denied any interest in that speculation, insisting he was happy at McLaren with the Woking-based team also voicing a wish to keep him.

But speaking to Spain’s AS, Sainz suggested for the first time he would at least feel comfortable in his abilities at a top team.

“There is nothing new because Formula 1 is paralysed, but I am confident in my abilities,” he said of his future.

“Last year I took a very important step and I am capable of doing very good things in a McLaren, in a Ferrari or in a Mercedes.”

Does that statement mean he’s now considering his options for next year? Well, we will have to wait and see what happens in the coming months.
